Barbara McManus wins
Quebec City Marathon
Worcester native and
WomenRunner reader Barbara McManus surprised a large French
constituency when she blazed through the Quebec City Marathon
in a PR time of 2:51.50, placing first among the women
and 15th overall. Entered as a non-elite runner, she was
using Quebec as a training run to gauge her fitness for
Chicago. Her main objective is to qualify for the 2004
Olympic Marathon trials. Read
her wonderfully descriptive account of such a great
race day. Originally set to run Chicago, she is now running
NYC instead, with a group of elite women. They will be
paced to a sub 2:48 by 2003 National Marathon champion
Sara Wells. . Congratulations Barbara!
Barbara McManus is 4 minutes closer to her Olympic Marathon
dream. At the 4th annual Cellcom
Green Bay Marathon, she stunned the field, placing
3rd in a time of 2:52. This was a 4 minute PR. I have
no doubt that given the right course on the right day,
she could cut another 4 minutes off and make the trials.
Good luck! In 2002 , she won the Hyannis
Marathon in February, and placed well in Pittsburgh
(2:57) and Green Bay (3:03). Best of luck to Barbara!
