Race Horror Stories

We all have our favorites. Here is one sent to me by a good friend. I have left out her name as I don't want to embarrass her. Who can beat this?

I ran a 5K this past weekend to "tune up" for Grandmas. It was one of those "nightmares" from the start. It started late, I had a "2 baby" babyjogger right behind me on the start line and was surrounded by kids (9-13 yrs old). They were all out running with their dads. The gun goes off and within 100 yrds we had to make a narrow, tight right hand turn! Then after dogging kids for the first mile, a boy about 12 on a bicycle passes me and rides the course with a number on. We hit a dirt section and he is right in front of me kicking up dirt and rocks. But the best part is next! We get back on pavement and are running toward the finish in town. We are probably 600 yds away and a train comes!!!! We had to cross the railroad tracks so the next thing you know, the race comes to a standstill as we all bunch up and wait for this long train to pass. Now it is a sprint to the finish and there were so many of us finishing at once they were yelling at us to stop before the finish line! No sooner had a finally gotten across the line than this same kid on the bicycle comes barreling through the finish chute (can you believe it) on his bicycle right into my calf and foot! I have a huge bruise and swollen spot but it is nothing serious and doesn't really hurt too much. I could not believe the finish line people didn't stop him, but I tried not to get too mad because it was a local 5K and fathers day.
